Guest guide

Be a guest on Build Your Edge

One focused topic. One free tool people can use the same afternoon. Two to four hours of your time.

This isn’t a talking-heads show. Every episode is planned with the guest beforehand and built around something the audience can actually apply; so it stays useful long after release week. This page explains how that works, what we’d ask of you, and what you get back.

What this show actually is

Most podcasts hit record and see what happens. We plan each episode together first, because the difference between an interesting chat and something people come back to is almost entirely in the preparation.

Your background matters: it gives the advice its credibility. But it’s the setup, not the subject. The episode is about the thing you can help someone do.

Why Build Your Edge is different

  1. 1

    Audience first

We focus on helping you, not promoting the guest, and definitely not the host.

  2. 2

    Specific topic

Each guest brings one focused topic that speaks directly to high achievers in tech.

  3. 3

Insight you can act on today

Every episode leaves you with a free tool, guide, or template you can download and use immediately.

Is this you?

Plenty of shows will take anyone with a story. This one is narrower on purpose, so it’s worth being honest about the shape of it.

Great guests

  • You have one clear topic that helps people do their job better
  • You’ve actually done the thing, not just read about it
  • You’ll make something short and practical to go with it
  • You’ll leave the ego at the door — it’s not showing off, it’s showing how

Probably not a fit if

  • You want to walk through your career story in general
  • You’re here to launch a product, a company or a book
  • You’d rather turn up and improvise than plan it first
  • You can’t spare a few hours across a couple of weeks

None of that is a rejection. If the timing isn’t right, or the topic isn’t there yet, we can pick it up later.

The shape of an episode

The full eight beats

Every episode moves through the same three beats. We’ll plan the detail together on a prep call.

  1. Define the problem

Make the topic real and relatable.

  2. Show what good looks like

Help audience visualise success and why growth is important.

  3. Walk through the steps to get there

The guest uses their insight and free tool to explain the path forward.

What we’d ask of you

Four things, spread over a couple of weeks. Two to four hours in total.

  1. 1

    Think about your topic

Some time on your own working out the one thing you want people to walk away with.

  2. 2

    One prep call, 45–60 minutes

We shape the episode together and agree what the free tool will be.

  3. 3

    Build the tool

A worksheet, checklist, framework or template. Short and usable beats long and impressive.

  4. 4

    One recording session, 1–2 hours

Video and audio, in one sitting. We handle the editing — you don’t have to.

What you get back

No fee changes hands in either direction. This is what comes with the episode.

You help people

The whole point. Someone finishes your episode able to do something they couldn’t before.

Your tool in the library

Free, ungated and credited to you, alongside every other guest’s. No email wall in front of it, ever.

A full content package

Video and audio, show notes, a personalised intro, social snippets and quote cards — and a LinkedIn carousel or article if you want one.

Promotion that keeps going

LinkedIn, Substack, YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts — and the episode stays findable long after release week.

Your own profile page

A permanent page linked from every episode, tool and event you appear in.

A possible book feature

Guest ideas may go on to feature in the Build Your Edge book.

Who you’d be talking to

People in tech who are trying to get better at the job — engineers, leads, managers, founders and the people who run engineering organisations. They aren’t here for inspiration. They want something they can apply.

  • Sharp, curious, and short on time
  • Looking for something they can use this week
  • Sceptical of fluff and allergic to sales pitches
  • In motion — stepping up, switching paths, or starting over

Let’s build something worth keeping

If you've got something others can use, send me a message and tell me what it is. If the timing isn't right, we can pick it up later.
