Podcast guest guide

Build Your Edge is a podcast built around one purpose: to help people grow in their work, career, or life. Each episode is purposeful and practical—anchored in real experience and designed to leave the audience better than it found them.

Guests aren’t chosen at random. They’re selected because they have something valuable to share—something that helps others build their edge. Topics are focused, insight-driven, and supported by a practical asset the audience can use right away.

This guide explains how episodes are shaped, what we look for in a guest, and the planning that goes into making each one worth someone’s time.

Every episode should make a difference, not just fill airtime.

One mission

The Build Your Edge podcast has one clear goal:

To help the audience build their edge in work, career, or life.

Three core principles

1

Audience first

Each episode is about helping the audience, not promoting the guest or the host.

2

Specific topic

Every guest brings a focused topic for a specific audience (e.g. “how to handle conflict as a new manager”).

3

Digital asset

Every guest shares a digital asset related to the episode that the audience can download and use immediately.

The episode structure

Define the problem

Make the topic real and relatable.

Show what good looks like

Help audience visualise success and why growth is important.

Walk through the steps to get there

The guest uses their insight and digital asset to explain the path forward.

Who’s watching and listening?

The Build Your Edge audience consists of individuals seeking personal growth. They’re sharp, curious, and looking for practical insight they can use.

They might be:

  • Early to mid-career professionals trying to move forward
  • Senior leaders, team leads and new managers who want to lead effectively
  • People in transition — stepping up, switching paths, or starting over
  • Executives looking for sharper thinking, better tools, and fresh insight
  • High-performers who want an edge but don’t want the fluff
  • Viewers and listeners who value real experience, not just opinion

They’re not just tuning in for inspiration. They’re looking for practical, focused content they can use right away.

Why guests might be a great fit (and why they might not)

There are numerous podcasts where guests discuss their careers, share their opinions, or provide updates on their companies, products, or projects.

Build Your Edge isn’t one of them.

This isn’t an off-the-cuff talking heads show. Every episode is planned and purposeful, built around something the audience can apply to improve their situation.

We’re creating long-lived content that stands the test of time, something people can return to, share with others, and utilise when needed most.

A guest’s background matters; it gives credibility and adds context. But this isn’t a place for humblebrags or polished PR. It’s a place to help people grow and improve their lives.

Great guests typically:

  • Bring a clear, relevant topic that helps the audience (or a subset of them) build their edge
  • Commit time to plan, prepare, and record
  • Create a short, practical asset to support the episode
  • Leave their ego at the door — it’s not about showing off; it’s about showing how

Guest commitment

Great content doesn’t happen by accident. Unlike most podcasts, where guests just turn up and hit record, we will plan each episode together. That bit of preparation helps us create something memorable, helpful, and worth the audience’s time, and something guests can be proud to share. That’s why being a guest involves a small but focused time commitment.

What guests can expect:

  • Some personal time thinking about their topic and planning the content
  • One prep call (45–60 mins) to shape the episode and review the asset
  • Time to review the plan and develop the asset
  • One recording session (1–2 hours)

In total, expect 2–4 hours across a couple of weeks.

What guests receive in return

  • A chance to help people move forward in their work, career, or lives
  • A platform to share their expertise and grow their personal brand
  • Their digital asset added to the growing public resource library
  • A complete content package:
    • Video and audio versions of the episode
    • Show notes and a personalised intro
    • Social snippets and quote cards
    • Optional LinkedIn carousel or article
    • Inclusion in the Build Your Edge guest gallery
    • Potential future feature in the Build Your Edge book
  • And, of course, our appreciation

Episodes will be promoted across LinkedIn, Substack, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more.

Let’s build something great

Build Your Edge isn’t just a podcast. It’s a focused, collaborative project designed to create long-lasting value for guests, the audience, and the show.

For those who want to be part of it, we look forward to working together.

And if the timing’s not right or a guest doesn’t yet have something relevant to offer, that’s fine; we can always reconnect down the line.
